Simple Tips for a Stress-Free Travel Season

Travelers walking through a busy airport terminal with rolling luggage, illustrating stress-free travel planning and smooth airport navigation.

The holidays may be merry and bright…but the airports? Not always.
December brings joy, celebrations, and plenty of travel plans, but it also brings crowds, weather delays, and the occasional dash through the terminal. With a little planning, though, your holiday getaway can feel smooth, intentional, and even enjoyable.

Here are my favorite Travel Designer approved tips to help you travel confidently this season:

1. Plan Extra Time (More Than You Think!)

Holiday travel runs on its own timeline, give yourself flexibility.

  • Arrive at least 2-4 hours early for flights (depending on domestic or international)
  • Expect longer check-in and security lines
  • Allow buffer time for road traffic and parking

2. Prep Your Digital Documents Before You Go

Download or save:

  • Airline app
  • Boarding passes
  • Hotel confirmations
  • Car rental details
  • Passport photos (digital)

Add everything to a Travel Folder on your phone for easy access.

3. Pack Intentionally (and Keep the Essentials Close)

In your carry-on, always keep:

  • Medications
  • Chargers + portable battery
  • One outfit + essential toiletries
  • Snacks (holiday delays are real)
  • A warm layer (planes get cold)

Traveling with gifts? Pack them unwrapped – TSA may need to inspect them.

4. Bring Baked Goods the Right Way

If you’re traveling with cookies, breads, or treats:

  • Use airtight containers
  • Avoid messy toppings
  • Place them in your carry-on (not checked)
  • Freeze baked goods ahead of time for extra freshness

5. Expect Weather Delays & Be Prepared

Winter weather can shift quickly. If a storm threatens your route:

  • Enable airline notifications
  • Monitor your flight in the app
  • Know your backup flight options
  • Keep a positive mindset – patience is your holiday superpower
