Solo travel has a funny way of changing the conversation.
At first, it’s all about the destination.
Where should I go? What should I see? Can I really do this on my own?
Then, somewhere along the journey, the conversation changes.
You stop asking if you can.
You start imagining where you’ll go next.
Maybe that’s what solo travel is really about.
It’s about becoming your own favorite travel companion.
The destination just happens to be where you figure that out.
Some people choose to travel solo because they’re waiting for someone else to say yes.
Others simply decide they’re tired of waiting.
Either way, they often discover the same thing.
Traveling on your own doesn’t have to mean being by yourself.
Sometimes it’s joining a small group tour where friendships form over dinner.
Sometimes it’s a river cruise where familiar faces quickly become new friends.
Sometimes it’s the simple joy of spending the day exactly the way you want to.
One of my favorite conversations is with clients after their first solo trip.
They usually start by telling me about the destination.
Then, almost without realizing it, they start telling me about themselves.
How they navigated a new city. Worked up the nerve to dine alone. Got a little lost…and figured it out.
Those are the stories that stay with me.
Because the confidence they bring home doesn’t stay packed in their suitcase.
Maybe the best travel companion wasn’t waiting for you to find them.
They’ve been with you all along.
The destination just happened to be where you figured that out.
